Create a simple heart motif and put a fancy border, add a tail and a glitter heart and you have a simple heart bookmark. I used a basic heart motif crochet pattern. Once I made the heart motif I attached white yarn to the bottom point and crocheted a simple, but fancy edge around the whole heart.
Without cutting the yarn, I continued to crochet the tail by adding chain stitches, a leaf pattern at the tip and slip-stitching back up the chain to the heart. In the end I found that the leaf motif at the end of the tail didn’t look as great as I had liked so I decided to glue two glitter hearts to cover it and give the tail some weight.
This crochet project can take as little as 15 minutes but no more than 30 minutes. It will take a little longer for the glue to dry on the glitter hearts but you can clamp them together with clothespins and walk away until it dries. The red heart measures approximately 2″. The finished heart measures approximately 3″. The tail is 9″ including the glitter heart. You can make the tail longer if are going to use it in a large book.

Key: sc = single crochet hdc = half-double crochet dc = double crochet slst = slip stitch st = stitch
Begin: Make a magic circle and then chain 1.
Round 1: Crochet 3 dc, 1 hdc, 2 sc, 1 dc, 2 sc, 1 hdc, and then 3 dc into the ring. Chain 1 and slst into the ring and pull the yarn tail to close the gap. Chain 1.
Round 2: Crochet 1 sc into the chain space before the first dc of the round 1. Crochet 2 hdc in each of the next 3 stitches; 1 hdc in the next 3 stitches; hdc and dc in next st; dc and hdc in next st; 1 hdc in next 3 stitches; 2 hdc in next 3 stitches; slst into the chain space; finish off.
Finish: Cut yarn and weave in the yarn tail with a yarn needle.
How to Add the Fancy Border and Tail
Join white yarn to bottom of heart. Chain 3, slst in 3rd chain from hook; sc in next stitch. Repeat around until you get to the top of the heart (where you ended off the heart) and slst in the center space. Chain 3 and repeat pattern around the other side of the heart until you get to the bottom. Sc in same place as first sc. Chain 60; slst in 3rd chain from hook, chain 5, slst in 5th chain from hook; chain 3, slst in 3rd chain from hook and in same chain as first slst; slst in each chain back to heart; slst in same place as you started. Fasten off and weave in yarn tail.
How to Add the Glitter Hearts
Put a bit of Tacky Glue on the clover pattern you crocheted and lay it on one of the hearts, wrong side facing in.
